CBD treatment and the entire CBD industry are still in their infancy. Although the benefits have been evident since 8000 BC, marketing or purchasing CBD products became legal only a few years ago.
So how much do we know about CBD? Have we just scratched the surface? Yes and No. We know a lot, but there is still much more to learn.
The fact that we have only scratched the surface to understand the true potential of CBD treatment is exciting! Groundbreaking discoveries are happening more and more as research continues to uncover the secrets of CBD.
We know that CBD contains many healing properties that have helped millions of people with various conditions. It’s important to point out that everyone is different. How your body responds to CBD treatment for sleep disorders, anxiety, or pain management could be completely different from someone with the same condition.
For this reason, we always recommend starting with an entry-level product with lower concentrations. Some will notice a reduction in pain, better sleep or reduced stress almost immediately, but most will see the benefits after about two weeks.
Recent interest in the side benefits of CBD treatment has led to more research, and the list of conditions that CBD can treat is snowballing.
Let’s take a look.
CBD Oil and Epilepsy
CBD Oil and its impact on epilepsy have been in the news before. Research is in its initial phase; however, the American Epilepsy Society states that cannabidiol research offers “hope for seizure disorders.” Studies are currently being conducted to understand its true potential.
One study took 214 participants with epilepsy. 2mg to 5mg of CBD was added to their daily medication for 12 weeks. The results showed that participants had reduced their seizures by 35.6%.
CBD and Diabetes
A recent study on human cells found that CBD helps to reduce the impact of high glucose on other cells in the body, which typically precedes the development of diabetes and various complications. With further studies, researchers concluded that CBD could have significant benefits in patients with diabetes, diabetic complications, and plaque buildup in artery walls.
In another small study, 13 patients with type 2 diabetes, not currently an insulin treatment plan, were given both CBD and a placebo (instead of insulin). Researchers found that CBD decreased their resistin levels and increased their glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide levels (a hormone that ensures a sufficient release of insulin from digested food) compared to their baselines before starting the test. The study suggests CBD could be a natural treatment for diabetes by helping the body regulate insulin-related hormone levels.
CBD and Neuroprotective Research
Recent research on brain receptors shows how CBD could assist those with neurodegenerative disorders, which are diseases that cause the brain and nerves to deteriorate over time. This receptor is known as CB1.
Preclinical and clinical studies show that CBD has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These characteristics can provide significant neuroprotection or protection against numerous pathological disorders.
Several preclinical studies also suggest CBD can help those with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
On the flip side, although CBD oil may reduce inflammation, it could cause neurodegenerative symptoms to worsen.
More research is needed to understand CBD oil’s effects on neurodegenerative diseases fully.
CBD Oil For Pain relief
The effects of CBD oil on your brain’s receptors may also help you manage pain. Recent studies backed by the National Institutes of Health have taken research to the next level by researching specific pain caused by:
Arthritis
Chronic Pain
Multiple Sclerosis
Muscle Pain
Spinal Chord Injuries
Multiple Sclerosis treatment options have expanded in Canada and the UK with the approval of Nabiximols (Sativex). The drug contains THC/CBD and is prescribed to reduce pain associated with MS.
If you have questions about pain management, you might find the answer.

CBD and Acne Prevention
CBD on receptors in the immune system may help reduce overall inflammation in the body. In turn, CBD oil may offer benefits for acne management. A human study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation found that the oil prevented activity in sebaceous glands. These glands are responsible for producing sebum, a natural oily substance that hydrates the skin and can lead to ance when too much is made.
Before considering CBD oil for acne treatment, it’s worth discussing it with your dermatologist. Although more human studies are needed to evaluate the potential benefits of CBD for acne, the initial findings are positive.
CBD Treatment for Opioid Addiction
Some studies, both preclinical animal and human clinical trials, suggest CBD could be used to help treat people who are dependent on opioids.
In one study, researchers administered CBD to heroin addicts. Over a week, CBD significantly reduced cravings, withdrawal anxiety, resting heart rate and salivary cortisol levels. Researchers found no serious adverse effects.
Other studies find CBD helpful in reducing various psychiatric and medical symptoms like anxiety, insomnia and pain in patients with substance use disorders, indicating that CBD may be an effective treatment for opioid addiction.
With that said, further studies are necessary. Stay tuned!
